She is the daughter of Harvey Welker (a Native American father) and Julie Welker (an African-American mom). Her mother works as a real estate agent while her father works as engineer. Walker was educated in the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia's Germantown region, where she was able to graduate in 1994. In 1998, she earned an undergraduate degree from Harvard College. Welker was married John Hughes in Philadelphia, who was known as a marketing director. The couple have two daughters. In 2014 they began having an affair. John her husband, who is just four years older than her. They decided to bring their relationship to a higher stage because things were going so well. They got married on March 4, 2017.
